“Children – and not bricks – should be the starting point of every building process”.
70 years ago, there was a strong increase in the population of the Netherlands. At that time, the number of schools seemed to matter more than the quality of the learning environment. School supervisors from the Ministry of Education and private school boards came together to discuss the situation. Their idea was that a well-defined educational vision would result in learning environments that enhanced the quality of education and the well-being of teachers, students and community. This led to the founding of ICS: “Information Centre for Schoolbuilding”.
Since then, the Netherlands has made great progress in the development of innovative learning environments.
